Best beers I've had in the past week:
Stone: 12.12.12 Vertical Epic Ale
This is Stone's annual release of their Vertical Epic Ale and is the last in the series (they have brewed one on every repeating date since 2002: 02/02/2002, 03/03/2003, etc). I haven't had any in this series before, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but this is super tasty. It's a dark beer but it's not heavy or boozy, and it's nicely spiced so that the hints of cinnamon and gingerbread come out. I had this on tap at the Anthill Pub's fifth anniversary last week, but I'm on the lookout to buy it again either on tap or bottled.
Ballast Point: Victory At Sea Coffee Vanilla Imperial Porter
I didn't order this at the Iron Press, so I was surprised when the waitress brought it to me by mistake. Happily surprised though, because this is DELICIOUS. It's smooth with notes of coffee and vanilla.
Hangar 24: Winter Warmer
This golden-brown ale tastes like maple syrup, cinnamon, and nutmeg. It's a little sweet and a little spiced -- perfect for a winter beer.
Epic: Imperial Red Ale
You wouldn't expect a Utah brewery to produce quality beer, but Epic's ales are outstanding. Their Imperial Red is no exception: it's the standard for a perfectly bittersweet, refreshing IRA.
